Elders' Bible Study #58

No Gatherings

1 Corinthians 16:1-2
Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye. Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.

Why does Paul stipulate no gatherings when he comes?

Please read: Live of The Gospel

Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding. (Proverbs 23:23)

Consider:
  • What does it mean that ministers should live of the gospel?
  • Should ministers charge for their services (preaching, healing, etc.)?
  • Should ministers receive gifts (monetary or otherwise) for their services?

In this particular verse it seems as though Paul has an schedule he has to keep and he wants no gatherings so he may continue his schedule. Now the question is still valid, No ministers shouldn't charge for any of their services, because ultimately the services come from God.
